Club NYC Cookie Policy
Early access This is a plain-language policy for a game in early access.
The Short Version
- Club NYC sets a few cookies of its own, mostly to keep you signed in. No other company sets cookies on our pages.
- No advertising cookies, no third-party trackers, and nothing that follows you to other websites.
- One thing is optional: anonymous visit counts. They stay off until you choose Allow Analytics, and you can change your mind right here at any time.
1 What Cookies and Browser Storage Are
A cookie is a small piece of text a website asks your browser to keep and send back on later visits. Browser storage (“local storage” and “session storage”) is similar, but it stays in your browser and isn’t sent to us by itself. Club NYC uses both: cookies for signing in, and browser storage for things like the copy of your game kept on your device.
Everything listed here is set by Club NYC itself, on this website. How we handle the information involved is explained in our Privacy Policy.
3 Browser Storage We Use
These stay on your device until you clear this site’s data in your browser (or, for the session one, until you close the tab).
| Name | What it’s for | Needs your OK? |
|---|---|---|
club-nyc:v2 |
A copy of your game progress and settings on this device, so the game loads quickly and works if the connection drops. | No, it’s necessary |
club-nyc:invite, club-nyc:lobby |
The friend whose invite link brought you here (so you become friends when you make your New Yorker), and the mini-game lobby you’re in (so a reload puts you back). | No, it’s necessary |
club-nyc:news-press, club-nyc:news-places |
Which issues of the in-game newspaper you’ve read. | No, it’s necessary |
club-nyc:waitlist |
That this browser joined the waitlist (just a yes, never your email address), so we don’t ask again. | No, it’s necessary |
club-nyc:consent |
Your answer to the cookie banner, so we don’t ask on every visit. We ask again after a year. | No, it’s necessary |
club-nyc:session (session storage) |
A random visit number for the anonymous visit counts below. Deleted when you close the tab. | Yes: only after Allow Analytics |
4 Anonymous Visit Counts (Optional)
If you choose Allow Analytics, our website and game tell our own server about a few moments in your visit, so we can see which parts work and which confuse people:
- opening the home page (and whether it’s on a phone or a computer, and whether you’ve visited before),
- clicking Play, Join the Discord, Watch the Trailer or a share button,
- the steps of making your New Yorker (like choosing a look or a name), and how long it took.
Each moment is recorded with the time and a random visit number. It isn’t linked to your account, your email address or your IP address, and it’s never shared with anyone. We delete these records after 90 days.
If you choose Necessary Only, or don’t choose, none of this is sent.
5 Your Choices
To change your choice, turn on JavaScript, or clear this site’s data in your browser and the banner will ask again.
- Global Privacy Control. If your browser sends this signal, we treat it as Necessary Only and don’t show the banner.
- Your browser’s settings can block or delete cookies and site data. If you block the necessary ones, you won’t be able to sign in or keep a guest account.
6 Other Companies
No other company sets cookies or loads trackers on Club NYC’s pages: there are no ads, social media widgets or outside analytics, and our fonts, pictures and videos come from our own website.
If you sign in with Google, X or Discord, you’re sent to their website for a moment, where their own cookies and privacy policies apply.
7 Changes to This Policy
If we change the cookies or storage we use, we’ll update this page and the “Last updated” date. If we ever add something optional, it will stay off until you say yes.
